Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 17 September 2026
These terms govern your use of speakwithvoco.com and the Voco app ("the platform"), operated by James Hutchinson as a sole trader ("Voco", "we", "us"). By creating an account you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
1. What Voco is
Voco is an AI-powered spoken conversation practice tool for language learners. You speak with an AI conversation partner in your target language; the platform transcribes what you say, generates a spoken reply, and gives feedback after the session. It is a practice tool, not a substitute for a qualified human tutor, and it does not guarantee any particular learning outcome or level of fluency.
2. Accounts
- You must provide accurate information (at minimum, a real email address) to create an account.
- You're responsible for keeping your account secure and for all activity under it.
- Voco is intended for adult learners (16+). We reserve the right to suspend or remove an account that misuses the platform, abuses another user, or attempts to circumvent billing or usage limits.
3. Free trial and billing
- New accounts get a limited number of free practice sessions and one free Learning Path checkpoint, described on the pricing page at the time you sign up.
- Beyond the free allowance, continued use requires either a monthly subscription (billed automatically until you cancel) or a one-off purchase (Learning Path tiers), processed securely by Stripe.
- Subscription prices, session allowances, and available tiers are as shown on the pricing page at the time of purchase and may change for future billing periods with reasonable notice.
- You can cancel a subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access until then.
- Certain Learning Path purchases carry a completion-linked refund guarantee, the terms of which are stated at the point of purchase.
- Except where a stated guarantee applies, purchases and subscription payments already taken are non-refundable, without prejudice to any statutory right you may have (for example, under UK consumer law for a service not provided as described).
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the platform for anything unlawful, abusive, or intended to harass another person.
- Attempt to access another user's account or data.
- Attempt to bypass rate limits, billing, or the free-trial allowance (for example, by creating multiple accounts to obtain further free sessions).
- Use automated tools to scrape, extract, or reverse-engineer the platform or its underlying models.
5. AI-generated content
Conversations, feedback, and corrections are generated by third-party AI models (see our Privacy Policy for which ones). While we design the platform carefully, AI-generated content can occasionally be inaccurate, including grammar corrections or factual claims made by a persona in conversation. Use your own judgement, and don't rely on the platform as your only source for anything safety-critical or high-stakes.
6. Your content
You retain ownership of anything you say or write on the platform. By using Voco, you grant us the licence needed to process that content (including sending it to the third-party providers listed in our Privacy Policy) in order to provide the service to you.
7. Availability
We aim to keep the platform available and reliable, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access. The service may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance, or affected by an issue with a third-party provider we depend on (for example, our speech-to-text or AI provider).
8. Limitation of liability
The platform is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the platform. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, such as liability for death, personal injury, or fraud.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform evolves. If we make a material change, we'll update the date at the top of this page; continuing to use the platform after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute arising from them will be handled by the courts of England and Wales.
